St.Vincent and the Grenadines was discovered by Columbus in 1498. This multi-island state became independent on October 27, 1979.
It is a full member of the British Commonwealth, the United Nations, the Organization of American States, the International Labour Organization, Caricom, and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. The main city and financial center, Kingstown, is situated on St. Vincent Island.
