British Bankers' Association
Among other things, the BBA is
responsible for continually improving the Banking Code, Small Business
Code, accounting principles and European regulations regarding banking
practices. An additional responsibility of the BBA is to set benchmark
rates such as the LIBOR.

The British Bankers’ Association (BBA) is
the trade association which represents the banks operating within the
United Kingdom.
History
It was set up in 1919. In 1972 it accepted foreign banks. In 1975
responsibility for money transmission services moved to APACS, which
becam UKPA in 2009.
Function
One of the BBA’s key roles is to operate and maintain BBA LIBOR, the
primary benchmark for short-term interest rates internationally, and one
of the fundamental benchmarks for global financial markets.
Structure
As of 2010[update] the BBA’s honorary chairman is Stephen Green, the
chairman of HSBC. The BBA’s chief executive is Angela Knight CBE. It is
situated halfway between the Bank of England and Liverpool Street
station, off the A1211 (London Wall).
What is the BBA?
The BBA is the leading trade association for the UK banking and
financial services sector. They represent over 200 banks. These member
banks collectively provide the full range of banking and financial
services and make up the world’s largest international banking centre,
operating some 150 million accounts and contributing £50 billion
annually to the UK economy
